Matt Shoemaker heads to disabled list with forearm strain.
The Angels injury carousel has started again unfortunately as first Ian Kinsler goes on the disabled list Friday and now today Matt Shoemaker has been placed on the 10-day DL due to a right forearm strain.
The move means that Matt Shoemaker will miss at least or possibly two starts and Parker Bridwell will get a new lease on life in the majors. Bridwell had a horrendous Spring after pitching so well in 2017.

Bridwell was 10-3 with a 3.91 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP last season after going into the starting rotation in late June. Bridwell went into this Spring hoping to earn a spot in the Angels 2018 starting rotation but a 0-1 record and a 6.85 ERA with a 1.75 WHIP ended any chances Bridwell may have had in making the rotation.
Shoemaker did not fare much better than Bridwell, but he had no options left. Shoemaker was 2-2 with a 5.71 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP this Spring, but he has been known to have poor Spring Trainings before and then come out strong in the regular season. Shoemaker did just that in his first start of the season on Saturday pitching 5.2 innings allowing four hits and three runs but getting the win against the Oakland A’s.
Shoemaker was scheduled to start Friday against the A’s which is a start Bridwell will now get the opportunity to do. The question mark is if Andrew Heaney will be ready on time to make his start. J.C. Ramirez will now start Saturday and Shohei Ohtani will again pitch on Sunday a pattern he started in Japan. Ohtani was known as “Shohei Sunday”.

How long Shoemaker will be out is the big question? He would be eligible to come off the DL and pitch next Wednesday, which would bee his second scheduled turn. If Heaney is not ready when his turn comes up on Thursday, April 12th then Nick Tropeano may get called up to fill-in for Heaney.
Next: Can the Angels beat Cleveland?
Hopefully for the Angels and Shoemaker his stay on the DL will be short. For now Parker Bridwell will hopefully take advantage of his time in the rotation, but only time will tell.
