The LA Angels have long been known for keeping things close to the vest and at the 2018 Winter Meetings things are no different. Although it was not highly publicized the Angels did make plays for both Patrick Corbin and Nathan Eovaldi.

LA Angels general manager Billy Eppler has been hard at work during the Winter Meetings and even before that as well.  Although the Angels have nothing to show for it at the moment, Eppler may be laying groundwork for some potential deals or signings that will possibly in the next two weeks after the Winter Meetings have concluded.

The Angels most pressing needs are starting pitching as well as upgrading the bullpen.  The Angels are also in the market for a starting catcher as well.  As of yet they have not done anything of consequence to address these issues.  However, the Angels have been linked before with free agent catcher Wilson Ramos who could potentially be a good fit for the team if they can lure him to Anaheim.

In the pitching category there a few big fish still left out there namely Dallas Keuchel and J.A. Happ.  It seems as if the Yankees may be close to bringing back Happ and another free agent starter that could be a good fit is Charlie Morton, but he may also be close to signing elsewhere.

Going the trade route may be more of the way that Eppler is going to improving the rotation.  The only issue is that many teams are going to want some of the top Angel prospects such as Jo Adell, Brandon Marsh, and Griffin Canning.  If Eppler can improve the Angels rotation without gutting the farm system then he should get a medal for it.  Kole Calhoun is one of the few Angels that that Eppler may be willing to part with and he might be able to fetch something decent in return.

Some other pitchers the Angels should be looking at if they are already is Matt Harvey and Sonny Gray.  They are not coming off successful seasons, but they do have the potential to be pretty good and a have a resurgence in their respective careers.

Next. The Angels should consider trading Kole Calhoun

Hopefully something will happen positively for the Angels that will make a positive impact on the team for 2019.
