The LA Angels are back above .500 at 51-50, and ready to take on the AL West division rival Oakland Athletics.

This game is more important than people may realize, as they may need to win this one to be willing to buy at the deadline.

The Halos are coming off of back-to-back series wins, but the A’s have been a challenge for them this year. In fact, the last series they lost was a two-game series at Oakland. It’s a four-game series this time around.

We’re at home this time, so expect it to go a little bit differently. The A’s are always tough, however, so don’t be fooled by their lackluster 4-6 record in their last ten games.

The spread for the game is Athletics -1.5, Angels +1.5. The over/under sits at 9.5. It’s +110 to take the over, and -130 for the under.

Angels vs Athletics Pitching Matchup

For the Angels, trade chip Alex Cobb takes the mound. He’s a trade chip because he’s improved again this year, and is having a nice 7-3 year with a 3.82 ERA.

For the A’s, it’s going to be Frankie Montas. Montas hasn’t been spectacular this year, but he’s been decent at 8-8 with a 4.34 ERA.

Angels Starting Lineup

  2. Shohei Ohtani//DH
  3. Phil Gosselin//1B

  5. Max Stassi//C
  6. Brandon Marsh//CF

Mike Trout Injury

Mike Trout “still doesn’t feel like he could push it right now,” according to Angels Manager Joe Maddon. It’s worth noting that Trout hasn’t experienced any setbacks, but I really don’t think he’ll be playing today, or any time in these last couple days of July.

He may even move to right field so he wouldn’t need as much movement when he comes by. We can do that now that Brandon Marsh is in the big leagues.

Angels vs Athletics Prediction Today

I’m unfortunately going to have to predict a loss for our Halos today. We have a better starter on the mound for sure, but we tend to lose games we shouldn’t a little too much. We’re 3-9 against the A’s this year, and have dropped our last five to them.

If Trout was back, I’d be picking the Angels, but even at home I can’t take them for today.
