Angels may be out of it, but they are still causing some chaos in 2026 playoff race

The Los Angeles Angels are on a quest to win 60 games -- with nine games left to go, the Angels need one more win to get to 60 for the season. That's much easier said than done for this team filled with players who will more than likely be elsewhere at the beginning of next season.

Through June 28th, the Angels were a bad team...but they were still treading water! They were neck-and-neck in the standings with teams like the Red Sox, Orioles and the Blue Jays who are now firmly in the mix for a playoff spot. The Angels offense was not great, but it was not bad! Vibes were perfectly average. On June 28th, the Angels had just won or split five out of their last six series. Things were looking up!

Since June 29th, the Angels have won five out of a possible 22 series. The Angels 23-45 record in that span is the second-worst in baseball, ahead of only the Athletics. Since June 29th, the Angels are either last or second-to-last in MLB in the following offensive categories: BA (.227), OBP (.297), SLG (.337), ISO (.110), K/BB (3.4), runs per game (3.4) and wOBA (.282).

However, despite the Angels completely bottoming out since June 29th...the five series the team did win had massive implications on the postseason race.

Out of the Angels 22 previous series, here are the five they have won: Mariners (9/14-9/16), Red Sox (9/7-9/9), Astros (8/18-8/20), Rangers (8/10-8/13), Cardinals (7/20-7/22).

The Mariners likely already had a trident stuck into their season, but the Angels really added insult to injury by taking two out of three games against their division rival. The Angels saw yet another dominant start by Ryan Johnson, while Denzer Guzman paced the offense with a team-high five hits in the series. The Angels will travel to Seattle for their last series of the season, and that ballpark might have the worst vibes of all-time given how putrid this Mariners team has been.

When the Angels traveled to Boston on September 6th, the Red Sox had three more losses than the Yankees. Following the series, the Red Sox had five. The Red Sox have struggled in September for years, and the Angels certainly took advantage and almost certainly put an end to Boston's hopes of hosting a Wild Card series against the Bronx Bombers.

The Astros and Rangers are currently vying for the top spot int he AL West, and the Angels have helped contribute to their incredibly mid seasons -- the Halos have a 14-12 record vs. the Astros and Rangers this season. Almost a quarter of the Angels wins this season have come against these two teams.
