Checking in on Angels trade deadline departures as Jo Adell erupts with Guardians

The Los Angeles Angels officially hit the reset button earlier this month. By the time the MLB trade deadline passed, the Halos offloaded several key players from this year's team, including Jo Adell, Jose Soriano, and Logan O'Hoppe, and turned their focus toward 2027 and beyond.

But just because some players are no longer part of the Angels' organization, doesn't mean they're forgotten. Baseball fans oftentimes have an affinity for former players, even those who drove them crazy while wearing their favorite team's uniform.

In total, the Angels moved seven players off the Major League roster ahead of the trade deadline. Let's check in with each one and see how they're faring with their new ball club.

Checking in on Angels' 2026 trade deadline departures

Jo Adell, Cleveland Guardians

Jo Adell was traded to the Cleveland Guardians in exchange for catching prospect Jacob Cozart. Since arriving on the banks of Lake Erie, Adell has caught fire. In his first 17 games with the Guardians, he's hitting .258/.329/.532 with four home runs and 17 RBI. Angels fans know all about Adell's hot streaks, and the Guardians are hoping his current heater will lead them back to the playoffs.

Ryan Zaferjahn, Chicago Cubs

For as good as Adell's been with the Guardians, Ryan Zaferjahn has been equally as bad since joining the Chicago Cubs. The former Angels' reliever has made seven appearances for the North Siders, and over six innings, has allowed five earned runs on nine hits, including two home runs. His .759 FIP is a far cry from the number he was putting up in Anaheim (3.76 FIP).

Brent Suter, Atlanta Braves

All-around-good-guy Brent Suter was dealt to the Atlanta Braves in exchange for Nacho Alvarez Jr. There hasn't been anything cheesy about Suter's performance with his new club, as he owns a 1.50 ERA and has worked multiple innings of relief in four of the five games he's pitched.

José Soriano, Toronto Blue Jays

José Soriano has given the Toronto Blue Jays a bit of a mixed bag since landing north of the border. He was lights out in his first two outings (10⅔ IP with a 1.69 ERA), but struggled in his most recent outings (10⅔ IP with a 6.75 ERA). The Blue Jays are making a late charge to get back into the playoff hunt, and are less than two games back of the final AL Wild Card spot.

Logan O'Hoppe, Texas Rangers

Logan O'Hoppe has been quite vocal since leaving LA, but it's not like he can let his play on the field do the talking. After being traded to the Texas Rangers earlier this month, he was immediately optioned to the minor leagues. He finally made his Rangers' debut earlier this week as the team's DH, which is odd considering his .569 OPS this season.

Kirby Yates, Pittsburgh Pirates

The most surprising performance from a former Angels' player moved at the deadline has to go to Kirby Yates. The right-hander struggled mightily coming out of the Los Angeles' bullpen this season, but has allowed just one earned run since joining the Pittsburgh Pirates earlier this month.

Chase Silseth, Texas Rangers

Much like Soriano, Chase Silseth has given his new teams some positives and negatives. His ERA (2.61) since joining the Rangers looks good. But his FIP (5.99) indicates a regression could be coming soon. Might want to check back in September.
