Complete list of Angels free agents with final predictions for who stays and who leaves in 2027

We are nearing the end of another disappointing season for the Los Angeles Angels. Hope seems to be on the horizon though with a new owner on board and John Mozeliak likely to stay with the team after taking over as the team's interim general manager during the season.

The Angels have a number of players set to hit free agency and they will have to decide what to do with all of them. Let’s try to predict which players will stay and which will go as the Angels try to turn things around.

Anthony Rendon

Yes, it is almost here. The worst contract in Angels history is about to expire and Anthony Rendon is going to be a free agent. Rendon got a seven-year, $245 million deal from the Halos back in 2020 and he’s been injured or just plain bad for most of it.

The two sides agreed to a buyout last year, which defers the money he was owed in 2026 across a few seasons, but he is going to officially hit free agency at the conclusion of this season.

His time with the Angels is clearly over and it seems like his MLB career is over too. He hasn’t played since 2024 and hasn’t been a valuable player since 2019 with the Washington Nationals. Unless he wants to take a minor-league deal with some team, no one will want him. He is probably just content to count the millions he fleeced from the Angels.

Robert Stephenson

Speaking of bad free-agent deals, the Angels have a club option on reliever Robert Stephenson and there is very little chance they’re going to exercise it. The Angels signed him to a three-year, $33 million deal ahead of the 2024 season and he only pitched in 12 games for the team after dealing with countless injuries. He missed all of 2024 due to Tommy John surgery and all of 2026 due to elbow surgery.

Travis d’Arnaud

While Travus d’Arnaud has been the backup catcher for the Angels the last two seasons, it’s unlikely he will be back for a third. He’s hit .174/.260/.261 this year with one homer and three runs batted in. It’s probably time to go for another option at this point.

Yoan Moncada

It’s been a season to forget for Yoan Moncada after he hit .189/.308/.297 with three homers and 10 runs batted in before ending up on the 60-day IL. He will not be back next season and the Angels probably shouldn’t have brought him back in the first place.

Adam Frazier

The Angels signed Adam Frazier to have a veteran option at second base, but with the emergence of Vaughn Grissom this season, there is probably no real need for Frazier next year except as a backup option on the bench.

Jeimer Candelario

Jeimer Candelario has played in just seven games with the Halos this season. He has two hits in 20 plate appearances, so odds are he is not going to be back next season.

In many ways, it would be fitting if the Angels didn’t bring any of their free agents back. They are trying to build something new in Anaheim, so why not start with a fresh slate and bring in some new players to try to get things turned around.
