The LA Angels have work to do when this MLB lockout ends--lots of it.
They didn't fix their squad the way we would have hoped, but it's absolutely not over. There are still players on the free agent market that would be great fits and additions to this team.
Not all of the top players available, however, are worth it. There are a few guys who could be seen by some as legit options for the Angels, who I don't see being good fits for this team.
No. 3 free agent the LA Angels should avoid when lockout ends: Freddie Freeman
Make no mistake about it: Freddie Freeman is an amazing ballplayer and a sure-fire Hall of Famer. Despite how good Jared Walsh is, Freeman is easily better. Therefore, if Freeman enters the LA Angels' lineup, Walsh would of course be moved to the outfield.
While Walsh is a really good defensive player in the outfield too, and not just first base, it would complicate things. This is because we're getting Mike Trout back next year, and therefore we have two remaining outfield spots. If Walsh takes one of them, then we have one spot remaining for all of Justin Upton, Brandon Marsh, and Jo Adell.
This creates a logjam we don't want to have. The team won't want to start the season with $28 million on the bench (Upton), and they also won't want to not play Marsh or Adell after they just came up and showed so much promise. If the Halos trade one or two of Upton, Marsh, and Adell, then we'll talk. As of right now, Freeman unfortunately doesn't fit the Halos.
