The LA Angels have work to do when this MLB lockout ends--lots of it.

They didn't fix their squad the way we would have hoped, but it's absolutely not over. There are still players on the free agent market that would be great fits and additions to this team.

Not all of the top players available, however, are worth it. There are a few guys who could be seen by some as legit options for the Angels, who I don't see being good fits for this team.

No. 3 free agent the LA Angels should avoid when lockout ends: Freddie Freeman

Make no mistake about it: Freddie Freeman is an amazing ballplayer and a sure-fire Hall of Famer. Despite how good Jared Walsh is, Freeman is easily better. Therefore, if Freeman enters the LA Angels' lineup, Walsh would of course be moved to the outfield.

While Walsh is a really good defensive player in the outfield too, and not just first base, it would complicate things. This is because we're getting Mike Trout back next year, and therefore we have two remaining outfield spots. If Walsh takes one of them, then we have one spot remaining for all of Justin Upton, Brandon Marsh, and Jo Adell.

This creates a logjam we don't want to have. The team won't want to start the season with $28 million on the bench (Upton), and they also won't want to not play Marsh or Adell after they just came up and showed so much promise. If the Halos trade one or two of Upton, Marsh, and Adell, then we'll talk. As of right now, Freeman unfortunately doesn't fit the Halos.

No. 2 free agent the LA Angels should avoid when lockout ends: Kris Bryant

Kris Bryant is in a similar boat as Freeman in that while he is a great player, he doesn't fit the LA Angels. The good thing about Bryant is not just that he's an impressive offensive player, but that he can play every position on the diamond other than second base and catcher.

Therefore, the only spot where he doesn't create a logjam of too many guys at one position himself is shortstop. Shortstop isn't his natural position, though, and the Halos should pass on spending the big bucks on a shortstop who's much better at other positions. I'd buy it if the Halos didn't have such strong needs in the pitching staff, but they certainly do have plenty of needs there.

The Angels need to go after pitching before being aggressive on a guy like KB. Lackluster pitching has kept the Halos out of the postseason for seven straight years now. The team has already signed Noah Syndergaard and Aaron Loup, and committed the big bucks to Raisel Iglesias.

Follow through with the plans to fix the pitching. Our lineup will be very good next year, and great if Anthony Rendon bounces back. The Angels need to focus on where they're not strong while they can in this offseason.

No. 1 free agent the LA Angels should avoid when lockout ends: Yusei Kikuchi

The LA Angels need starting pitching, but they don't want Yusei Kikuchi. While he was indeed an All-Star last year, he finished the season very poorly.

Ever since that All-Star game, hitters batted .300 against him. He went 1-5 with a 5.98 ERA in those last 13 starts. It's true that every pitcher is going to go through rougher stretches in their career, but Kikuchi is very prone to this type of stretch.

Keep in mind that in his first two seasons of his career, he was a 5.39 ERA pitcher who boasted a terrible 8-15 record with an 80 ERA+.

All in all during his career, Kikuchi has been a 4.97 ERA guy with a rough 1.403 WHIP. He's allowed 1.6 home runs per nine innings in his three-year career. Let's hold off on Kikuchi.

It goes to show that while the Angels have clear needs at certain positions, they need to make sure they're acquiring guys who fit the organization best. Just going after players on last year's All-Star team isn't going to get the job done. Perry Minasian needs to nail the rest of this offseason.
