No. 1 reason to get excited about the LA Angels in 2022: They have the 2 best players in MLB
The LA Angels are always going to intrigue as long as Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout are here.
The dynamic is simple. Trout has been the best player of this last decade, and Ohtani was the best player of this season.
Having the two best players in baseball puts the team in win-now mode, so we at least can be excited about this team looking to compete this year.
And by the way, don't let the injuries fool you. While Trout was healthy this year, he was having the best year of his career. Posting a .333/.466/.624 (1.090 OPS), he was unstoppable. He smoked eight bombs and scored 23 times in just 36 games.
He was so dominant that he was selected to start the All-Star Game despite being injured. Posting a 190(!) wRC+ and a 195(!) OPS+, he was raking uncontrollably.
Trout has somehow become a better player with age, and he was greatly missed last season on the Halos. He also hasn't made an error in multiple seasons. He's got the offense, he's got the defense, and he's a great leader.
The Angels have some serious potential for next year, and the offseason will hopefully be back and running before we know it.
