Jazz is much more appealing now!

After yet another embarrassing postseason exit, the New York Yankees are expected to move on from several members of their 2026 roster. One of those players, Jazz Chisholm Jr., could be on the radar of the Los Angeles Angels this offseason.

While working through the notable qualifying offer decisions across baseball, the New York Post's Jon Heyman reports that Chisholm isn't expected to receive one from the Yankees. That eliminates the risk of the Angels being forced to part with draft-pick compensation as part of signing Chisholm.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. could find redemption with Angels after disappointing Yankees ending

As Yankees fans love to say, some players can't handle the pressure of playing in New York. The organization has not won a World Series since 2009. It's possible that is what was at play with Chisholm's struggles this past season.

The Angels have an advantage in the Chisholm sweepstakes (if you want to call it that) when you factor in that they could offer him the opportunity to play either the infield or outfield. Chisholm played all 137 of his games at second base last season, but he does have experience playing center field and third base. The Angels could upgrade at second base by replacing Oswald Peraza/Adam Frazier with Chisholm, or even at third base by replacing Denzer Guzman. Mike Trout reportedly requested to move to left field, which leaves center field wide open for the Halos heading into next season if Chisholm Jr. wants to reclaim his more natural position.

Chisholm hit a career-high 31 home runs for the Yankees in 2025 and posted an .813 OPS. The former cover-athlete of the MLB The Show video game thrived with the small-market Miami Marlins from 2020-2024. Perhaps a move out of the limelight would help re-ignite Chisholm Jr.?

For reference, it's rare for players to accept qualifying offers. So, the Yankees are making a loud statement by not even tendering one to Chisholm, who was supposed to be a 50/50 guy in 2026. Given that the Yankees fell into the trap of Trent Grisham accepting the qualifying offer last year, it's possible they are avoiding the same fate for Chisholm this time around. Nonetheless, the opportunity is there for the Angels.
