There's an opening for the Los Angeles Angels to take over southern California. Everything is breaking their way at the right time. Halos' fans were surprised by the news on Tuesday that Stan Kroenke, the multi-billionaire owner of the Los Angeles Rams, Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche, and Arsenal F.C., as well as other teams, was purchasing the Anaheim-based franchise.

That was good news in and of itself. Kroenke's teams are proven winners. Since 2022, the Rams, Avalanche, Nuggets, Arsenal, Arsenal Women's, and Colorado Mammoth (Lacrosse) have won a championship in their respective leagues.

It's hard not to look at that and say that the Angels will be reaching that stratosphere sooner rather than later. Pair that with what the team's Freeway Series rivals' owners are being accused of, and the Angels might soon be the No. 1 team in L.A.

The Angels are trending up and the Dodgers look like they are trending down

A few weeks ago, reporting began to emerge about shady Dodgers finances. The reporting alleged that the Dodgers owners used the insurance companies they also own to leverage policyholders' money improperly. The Dodgers have quickly come under federal scrutiny and are under investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice as well as the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

The quick turn on the Dodgers and their finances, combined with new ownership in Anaheim, means that the Angels have an opening to become the top baseball team in LA. Kroenke is known as an owner who trusts the people he hires. He is mostly hands-off when it comes to the day-to-day movements of his franchises, allowing the top officials he hires to do that work.

Kroenke is now the richest owner in baseball. His estimated $24.3 billion net worth surpasses New York Mets owner Steve Cohen, who held the spot for less than six years. Kroenke has also recently turned the narrative surrounding himself from a cheap or frugal owner to an owner willing to shell out the money in order to secure championships. He'll need to spend the money too if he wants to build a team that can beat the Dodgers.

It's been a hard time to be a Halos fan recently, but things might be turning around. Even if nothing comes of the investigation into the Dodgers, Angels fans can be happy about a new owner coming to save to town. But it seems like the window to the top team in LA is opening.
