Angels News: 'Anaheim' name change, former All-Star signs MiLB deal, Kyren Paris

There's still some loose ends to tie up, but Anaheim Assemblyman Avelino Valencia has been pushing for the Los Angeles Angels to return to their former moniker — the Anaheim Angels — and he may soon get his wish.

Back in March, Valencia introduced a bill known as the "Home Run for Anaheim Act" aimed at restoring the city of Anaheim's name to the Halos. The bill has passed through the California legislature and now awaits the signature of Governor Gavin Newsom.

To be clear, the bill does not mandate that the team name return to the Anaheim Angels. Nevertheless, there are some outstanding circumstances — including state exceptions — that could prompt the name change in the future. Any future leases for Angel Stadium, which may be extended for another 12 years, could also be cause for a change.

The Angels franchise was famously known as the California Angels from 1965-1996. The team was then known as the Anaheim Angels from 1997-2004, and then the Los Angeles Angeles of Anaheim from 2005-2015.

Angels News: Michael Fulmer, Hagen Danner signed to MiLB deals

Earlier this week, the Angels signed former All-Star Michael Fulmer to a minor league contract. The 33-year-old veteran hasn't pitched in the majors since last season, and most recently spent time with the San Francisco Giants Triple-A affiliate. Fulmer was assigned to Triple-A Salt Lake and could be called upon later this season.

In addition to Fulmer, LA also inked Hagen Danner to a minor-league pact. The right-hander was part of the Cincinnati Reds organization earlier this season, but was released last month after walking over 16% of the batters he faced.

Angels News: Kyren Paris is on fire in the minors this season

Angels fans haven't seen hide nor hair of Kyren Paris this season. The former second-round pick has spent all season in the minor leagues, and has appeared in 48 games for Triple-A Salt Lake. He's hitting .295/.422/.578 with 12 home runs and 50 RBI.

Paris has never been able to find firm footing in the big leagues, though with John Mozeliak now running the show, perhaps the interim GM will give the 24-year-old another chance later this season. September call-ups are just around the corner.
