Angels sale should end the Mike Trout trade rumors once and for all

With longtime Los Angeles Angels owner Arte Moreno entering into an agreement to sell the team to billionaire businessman Stan Kroenke, there's bound to be a lot of changes in store for the front office, the players, and the fanbase.

One change that everyone throughout Anaheim will undoubtedly be eager to see is the lack of Mike Trout trade rumors scrolling across their social media feed this coming offseason. Without fail, every winter, every trade deadline, and every month in between, some talking heads frequently find ways to devise a plan to "get Trout out of LA." Look for those harebrained concoctions to come to a screeching halt.

Trout has a full no-trade clause, meaning he can veto any trade the Angels even attempt to make. Still certain members of the media have constantly advocated for him demand a change of scenery. They can't fathom the idea of a player of Trout's caliber ending his Major League career without a ring. Never mind the fact that Ernie Banks, Ty Cobb, Ted Williams, Ichiro Suzuki, and Ken Griffey Jr. all failed to win a World Series. All of them are also in the Hall of Fame, by the way.

Trout has continually maintained the desire to finish his career with the Angels organization and has never entertained the idea of waiving his no-trade clause in order to go ring-chasing. Now with Kroenke — a well established sports owner who has his hand in a little bit of everything — calling the shots, the ring might actually come to Trout.

Kroeke's reputation precedes him, and even free agent to-be Tarik Skubal recently recognized the conception that the Angels could become a target destination for free agents in the future. Skubal told the LA Times, "It is likely that players that might not have considered signing with the Angels might now do so.”

Was the two-time Cy Young Award-winner talking about himself? Who knows? But the sentiment itself seems wildly accurate. Without Moreno in the boss' chair, the Angels might be able to flip the script on the Los Angeles Dodgers and become the new landing spot for some of the top talent in the league.

With Trout in full control of his future, it's unlikely he'll find a better situation than the one he's currently in going forward. The future Hall of Famer is under contract through 2030, and perhaps now can finish out the remainder of his career without hearing the words, "trade rumors."
