Arte Moreno's shocking Angels decision gives John Mozeliak the signal he needed to stay long-term

In an absolutely stunning turn of events, longtime Los Angeles Angels owner Arte Moreno has sold the team to Stan Kroenke — a well-known businessman who's numerous exploits span the globe and several sports leagues.

Kroenke is probably best known for owning the Los Angeles Rams, though he also owns Arsenal F.C. of the Premier League, the Colorado Avalanche of the NHL, and the NBA's Denver Nuggets. I think it's safe to say that the new Angels' owner will have some extra cash on hand when free agency rolls around.

What's John Mozeliak's future after Arte Moreno sells Angels to Stan Kroenke?

Though Kroenke doesn't have any experience running a Major League Baseball organization, his reputation proceeds him. The new Angels' owner has a history of having the right people in the right positions, and that will go a long way toward building a successful franchise in Anaheim. And that's where John Mozeliak comes in.

Mozeliak took over as the interim general manager after Perry Minasian was let go earlier this year. The longtime St. Louis Cardinals exec spent the past couple of months reorganizing the coaching staff, beefing up the farm system, and setting a vision for the future of Angels' baseball. It's hard to imagine he'd want to abandon that now, right?

This may be a bit presumptuous, but billion-dollar deals like this don't take place over a cup of coffee on a Tuesday afternoon. One has to wonder how long Moreno and Kroenke were actually discussing such a sale, and whether or not Mozeliak was privy to those discussions.

Furthermore, this latest revelation could be the biggest clue yet as to why Moreno and Mozeliak continued to kick the can down the road when long-term discussions became the topic of conversation. After the Angels' trade deadline moves drew exceedingly positive reviews, many outsiders assumed the Halos would remove the "interim" tag from Mozeliak's title and move forward with him as the club's new GM.

That may still, in fact, be the plan. And if Mozeliak has any say in the move whatsoever, one has to assume he'd gladly accept a permanent role working alongside the new Angels' ownership.

More information is sure to be made public in the coming days, and while change can be scary, there's little doubt that this is a positive development for the Angels' organization and the fans in Orange County.
