The Los Angeles Angels continue to gear up for the regular season playing in the Cactus League from Tempe Diablo Stadium. Today the Los Angeles Angels faced the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Jered Weaver got the starting nod today and he struggled. Weaver gave up five runs off six hits until he was replaced by Jose Molina in the middle of the third. Luckily Weaver had help in the outfield off good play from LF Daniel Nava and Mike Trout. The numbers for Weaver could have been worse, the outfield is going to have little room for error if Weaver continues to struggle going forward. With, Weaver, Garrett Richards, and Matt Shoemaker all struggling this week, Manager Mike Scioscia has to be concerned.

The batters for the Angels got it going early, providing 3 early runs with RBI’s including 2 from Albert Pujols, 1 for Nava, Trout and Andrelton Simmons. Nava continues to impress hitting seven of 11 early in spring training. Five runs off six hits in two innings. Trout had an RBI triple on his second attempt at bat after being walked by Scott Kazmir of the Dodgers. Pujols is showing no signs of lingering pain from his foot surgery.

Kazmir was pulled in the 2nd inning after allowing five runs by the Angels. Jamey Wright was on the mound next for the dodgers. Wright who is 41 years old pitched for the second time in Cactus League play. Wright allowed Johnny Giavotella an RBI for a score from Nava, and a wild pitch to bring home Simmons. The Angels led seven to five after three innings.

Once Weaver was pulled we saw Molina, Joe Smith, Javy GuerraAl AlburquerqueNate Smith and Josh Zeid. Molina only took the mound for three pitches before Joe Smith replaced him in the 4th. Alburquerque gave up three runs in the 6th inning, while Smith gave up a four runs in the 7th. Chris Hatcher replaced Wright for the Dodgers giving up a double to Trout and a double RBI to C.J. Cron in the 4th inning. After which the Dodgers laid out a handful of pitchers while the bats went silent for the Angels until the 7th inning. Roberto Baldoquin with a sacrifice fly-ball to drive in Todd Cunningham and Rafael Ortega grounds out to drive in Nick Buss. Baldoquin would show in the 9th with the bases loaded and hit a 3-run, game-tying, then got tagged out.

The bats have been working for the Angels as of late, this is a good sign if the batters can maintain going into the season. The Angels scored 13 on 16 hits and allowed 20 hits for 13 runs, mainly due to the struggles Weaver, Alburquerque, and Smith. The Angels looked all but done going into the 9th until Baldoquin drove in 3 in the bottom of the 9th for a final score of 13-13. 26 runs and 36 hits gave us no winner on a crazy game in Arizona.
