The Guerra connection with help from Albert Pujols and Brendan Ryan keys Angels comeback victory to take series rubber-game in Pittsburgh.

Recently the Angels roster has been a revolving door mostly in regards to the pitching staff.  Yet again this weekend more moves have been made due to young right-hander Nick Tropeano having to go onto the disabled list with right shoulder tightness.  Tropeano is not expected to miss extended time, but the Angels thought it was best to be safe with the up and coming Tropeano.

To replace Tropeano on the roster the Angels recalled Deolis Guerra on Saturday after he had just been sent back down to Triple-A on Thursday.  So now the Angels have two Guerra’s in the bullpen as Javy Guerra was called up on Wednesday to replace pitcher Chris Jones who was sent down last Wednesday.  The Angels also re-signed Brendan Ryan on Wednesday to replace Cliff Pennington on the roster.

Both Javy and Deolis Guerra along with Brendan Ryan played key roles in the Angels come from behind 5-4 series-clinching victory over the Pirates Sunday afternoon. Javy Guerra pitched an inning of scoreless relief and Deolis Guerra was stellar as well pitching 1.2 innings of hitless relief recording three strikeouts and getting the victory when the Angels rallied in the late innings.

Brendan Ryan also started the game-ending double play bailing Huston Street out of a bases loaded one-out jam in the 9th inning.  Ryan quickly fielding former Angel Sean Rodriguez‘s grounder and feeding it to Gregorio Petit who threw it to Albert Pujols at first to complete the twin-killing as Pujols stretched as far as he could to end the game.

Pujols was the game MVP for sure with the great defensive play at first also hitting the go-ahead two-run homer to left capping a four-run rally for another comeback victory.  Hopefully for Pujols, who came up limping after the play at first telling FOX Sports reporter Jose Mota that he turned his ankle on the play.  When asked about the injury

"Pujols said, “I’m alright it just my ankle and I rolled it a little bit when I tried to stretch there.  I’ll be alright.”"
