There is a lot of speculation surrounding who will be the next head of baseball operations for the Los Angeles Angels. While John Mozeliak remains in place, he has not been guaranteed his position for next season. With the change in ownership of the franchise, no one is sure if Kroenke Sports Entertainment will want to put their own person in place for the offseason.
The biggest challenge of this offseason for the Angels is the fact that KSE doesn't officially take over the club until the sale is voted on and approved (needing a 75% majority), and then they will take over in the first quarter of the 2027 season (roughly late March). While Arte Moreno will still officially be in control, KSE will guide the direction of the offseason from the background.
This then creates an awkward situation. Because Moreno still officially owns the team, he can make decisions for the club throughout the offseason, but the new ownership group will want to have the final say over what happens. That puts the top baseball decision-maker in an awkward position, but it is not one that Mozeliak is unfamiliar with.
John Mozeliak has been in this rare situation before, which should be a huge boost to his job security
I can’t speak to this situation exactly, but Mozeliak told reporters yesterday about his time in St Louis when Bill DeWitt bought the Cardinals from Anhueser-Busch… In that scenario DeWitt was consulted as to big picture decision making, but A.B. still owned the team.

When speaking to reporters, Mozeliak talked about his time as GM in St. Louis, when the team was sold and there was a transfer of power from Anheuser-Busch to Bill DeWitt. Mozeliak's familiarity with the situation could be the exact reason he keeps his job.
Mozeliak is a very experienced GM who did a solid job running the Angels in his time as the interim GM. Not only does he have a level of familiarity with the organization, but he also has years of experience working through the ins and outs of a major league offseason. Adding his knowledge of the exact situation the Angels find themselves in should be enough to save his job.
If the transfer of power is similar to the way it happened with the Cardinals, he will have to listen to two different bosses at the same time. If KSE puts a new head of baseball operations in place, who knows how they will work with Moreno, and that could create a failing offseason. Mozeliak's track record should give him enough goodwill with the new ownership group. Keeping Mozeliak in charge, at least for one more season, could help make this transition as smooth as possible.
This offseason could go several different ways. Just on a baseball level, L.A. is going to want to bounce back from their worst record ever. Adding the transition of power only makes this that much more challenging. Keeping Mozeliak in place could help enough to get L.A. back to a competitive team.
